Lapis Pools / Architecture
— 01 / The House

A small atelier
on the Intracoastal.

Lapis Pools occupies a coral-stone yard on South Olive Avenue, walking distance from the inlet. We are six people — two designers, three masons and one project secretary — and we accept four commissions a year. Every pool we build, we visit each morning until the day the water is turned on.

Our houses are simple. A rectangle of water, plaster mixed by hand, tile set one piece at a time, coping cut from a single block of stone. We do not build infinity edges over the water, we do not build pools shaped like kidneys or guitars, and we do not build vanishing decks. We build still water inside a thoughtful frame, and we trust the frame to do the work.

Three commissions.

We offer three programmes. Each begins with a site visit and a hand-drawn proposal; nothing is begun without both.

Architecture / A sense of place
From the first sketch

A considered path from idea to place.

01

Understand the site

Light, context, daily routines and the constraints of the property shape the brief.

02

Explore the possibilities

Review layouts, materials and priorities together before committing to a direction.

03

Resolve the details

Agree the scope, the next decisions and the responsibilities that carry the work forward.

Good to know

A few things
you might ask.

What should I bring to the first conversation?

A location, a few photographs and a sense of your priorities are a useful start. Drawings and surveys help when available.

Can we discuss an early-stage idea?

Yes. An initial brief can explore feasibility, priorities and the questions to resolve before a detailed design begins.

How are budgets and timelines established?

They depend on the site, scope and approvals. Request a project-specific proposal before making commitments.

The next step
